Film Information[]
Shrek is a 2001 American computer-animated fantasy-comedy film directed by Andrew Adamson and Vicky Jenson, produced by Pacific Data Images, and distributed by DreamWorks Pictures. It is loosely based on William Steig's 1990 fairy tale picture book Shrek! and somewhat serves as a parody film of other fairy tale-adapted movies (mainly Disney). It centers on an ogre named Shrek (Mike Myers), the titular character, who lives on his private swamp in the Kingdom of Far Far Away. One night, Shrek's precious solitude is interrupted by an invasion of annoying fairy tale characters, who were all banished from their kingdom by the evil Lord Farquaad (John Lithgow). A very annoyed Shrek, with the help of an annoying donkey named Donkey (Eddie Murphy), sets out to get the fairy tale characters' home back from Farquaad. After defeating all his guards, Shrek cuts a deal with Farquaad and sets out to rescue Princess Fiona (Cameron Diaz), who is locked in a tower over a volcano, guarded by a dragon to be Farquaad's bride. However, he soon falls in love with Fiona himself, things get more complicated from there.
