Ape Escape is a game series developed by SCE Japan Studio and published by Sony Computer Entertainment. Known for its ape-related humour, unique gameplay, and pop culture references, it was unique as it was the first game series to make the PlayStation's DualShock or Dual Analog controller mandatory. In the first game, an ape named Specter gains a helmet which enhances his intelligence and malevolence, and sends an army of apes through time to rewrite history. The protagonist, Spike, must capture the apes with the aid of special gadgets. There have been numerous spin-offs of various genres, mainly racing and party.
